Theory of Constraints: How to prioritise tasks effectively
Today’s video is a technique to help you decide what to do next.
There’s always ‘plenty to do’ in your business.
But what do you start with?
Out of all the tasks you could do, what is the NUMBER ONE thing you should do?
The thing you need to do.
Not what’s easy.
But what’s the ‘right’ thing to do.
To move the business forward.
There’s a great book called The Goal by Eli Goldratt and it talks about the ‘Theory of Constraints’.
It started on the manufacturing floor.
They would identify, what is the biggest thing holding this whole operation back?
And go fix that.
Then they would move to the next weakest link.
And go fix that.
By doing this over and over again, they allowed themselves to get the RIGHT tasks done.
It’s tempting to go do some random tasks to get that dopamine hit.
But you’re fucking kidding yourself.
Deep down, you KNOW what the right task is.
And as much as you try to avoid doing the main thing, you will continue to flounder around like a small dog chasing it’s tail at the park.
Ask yourself today – what’s the biggest thing holding me back from getting my number 1 outcome?
That’s the only thing you should give a shit about.
Cheers,
Ray
(Ps. I said I read it several years ago in the video, it was closer to 1 year ago haha)
