Hey everyone,
I read this article on Forbes a few months back:
It is a brief story on Private Equity Billionaire Robert Smith.
He said something which I believe very strongly in, and thought I would share with you – especially given at this time of year we reflect on what we did (and didn’t) do this year.
He said:
“We are only bound by the limits of our own conviction. We can transcend the script of a pre-defined story, and pave the way for the future that we design. We just need to tap that power, that conviction, that determination within us.”
All of us have a ‘pre-defined story’ or ‘invisible script‘ playing constantly through our head.
It governs everything we do.
It controls what we attempt and don’t attempt.
For some, your story constantly holds you back from your true potential in life.
For others, your inner mental game allows you to transcend the limits of the people in your industry to achieve things they could never achieve.
The good news is that you can re-write that story.
It can take weeks, months and even years in some cases – but it absolutely can be done.
This pre-defined story may have formed in your childhood years, it could have formed when you entered the workforce or elsewhere.
Either way you need to remind yourself on a daily basis that whatever has happened in the past does not NEED to define what happens in the future.
It works like this:
Poor Belief (I’m crap at marketing) > Poor Action > Poor Result > Reinforces Poor Belief
This is how what you THINK about affects your real world results.
They are directly connected.
Your action :
What’s one limiting thought you keep having in your head? Over the next 30 days, make a concerted effort to be more aware of this. When you get that feeling of doubt creep in, remind yourself it’s an old script that no longer serves you. Over time you’ll re-train your brain.
Enjoy your day,
Ray
